The onset of the monsoon is a welcome relief from the sweltering heat and the rains are so close at hand. Dancing in the rain is a childish fantasy that we all cherish. But don’t be surprised if your skin doesn’t share your enthusiasm. The bright sweat-inducing sun has now given way to gloomy skies and high levels of humidity. So, while dancing in the rain can be fun and an amazing experience, it might not be the best thing for your skin.Hair care oil

Here is a list of what you need to watch out for:

  1. The humidity that comes with the rain’s spells disaster for our hair and also has the potential to wreak havoc on our skin. 
  2. This high humidity in the air during the rainy months can lead to a plethora of skin and hair ailments some of which are constant sweating, wet hair, excessive secretion of oil by sebaceous glands of the skin, can cause pimples, fungal infections, blackheads, white patches and a host of other problems. These ailments must not be ignored
  3. Excessive wetness and dryness can cause the hair to turn Frizzy, dull or dandruff-prone. 
  4. If you are anywhere near the city you will get only toxic rain water diluted with the pollutants of the atmosphere.
  5. Peeling, cracking, and scaling of the skin with severe itching are typical symptoms of fungal infection which can be cause due to the rains. The main areas of worry are the ones that sweat too much, like the armpits or between your elbows
  6. Contact with dirty water may also result in contact dermatitis Hair problems

Here’s how you can protect your skin and hair:

  1. Try to avoid getting your hair wet in the rain, especially the initial rain. This is because the rainwater brings down the pollutants from the air and they eventually weaken the shaft bonds making your hair dull and lifeless.
  2. If it has been raining consistently for a week, it is safe to get wet and dirty.
  3. Always go out in the rains after applying a water-proof lotion. Even a water-proof sunscreen it will do the job. The cream will insulate the skin against the chemicals in the rain.
  4. Cover up your hair before, as protection against humidity. 
  5. Keep your skin clean to avoid any fungal infection. Wash it with face wash, scrub it to remove blackheads and pollutants, apply a toner and then moisturise every day. Remember not to rub your skin when drying it off instead pat it dry.Skin care
  6. Drink lots & lots of water irrespective of the season.
  7. Use cotton undergarments as they allow your skin and body to breath 
  8. Wear appropriate footwear that are fit for the rains. Dry your legs as soon as you can.
  9. Cover up with mosquito nets or repellents before you sleep.
  10. Try out a shorter hairstyle.
  11. A hot oil massage once a week is a good option as it keeps the hair nourished.
  12. Avoid using a hairdryer. In case it is necessary, ensure that your hair is almost dry and hold the dryer more than six inches from your scalp. 
  13. Avoid exposing your hair to a lot of chemicals. This means that you should refrain from straightening your hair, highlights etc.
