Our New Year Punch could be a spiced apple sparkler that everybody will get pleasure from. If you like, substitute ginger ale for the champagne.
For a fancy touch, rim the glasses with cinnamon-sugar. (See below.)
Recipe for new Year Punch
1 quart apple juice (or apple cider)
1 cinnamon stick
4 cardamom pods, broken
6 whole cloves
1 bottle wine or champagne ice
optional: apple slices for garnish, cinnamon stick
In a medium pan, mix the apple juice and spices. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for ten minutes. Cool, and chill nightlong in a large pitcher. To serve, strain the spiced juice into a bowl. Add the wine or champagne. Simply before serving, add the ice.
For a fancy occasion, rim of the glasses with cinnamon-sugar! Just wet the edge of the glass in some additional apple juice, then dip the wet edges into a bowl that has one half cinnamon to a pair of parts granulated sugar. (You also can purchase cinnamon-sugar mix in the spice aisle at the grocery store.)
